Side Gates

The drop-down gates were in poor shape when the truck arrived.  The lower hinges were broken & the metal was pulling away from the frame.  This required welding-in replacement panels.

I was fortunate to find a pair of side gates in Northern California in the hands of a long-time friend Jacin that he offered me for $1000.  He had a large wood crate to ship them safely and sent them to San Diego via Greyhound bus freight service for $150.

I removed the original gate hinge bolts using an impact wrench & hammer.  Then I removed & stripped the latches.

When the gates arrived in November they were in very nice condition with good hinges & straight panels.  I stripped the putty-gray paint down to bare metal on both side gates.  Then I primed them with etching primer & painted with L345 Light Gray.
