Cargo Area

Since this truck had been a work truck on a farm for 50 years, the cargo bed & gates suffered from a lot of dents & surface rust.  But there were no areas where the rust had gone through the bed.  After replacing the side gates, it was time to work on the cargo bed.

I used the DA orbital sander & wire brush to remove the rusty bits.  Then I applied the rust conversion chemicals to stop the rust and create a paintable surface.  Then I applied several coats of primer & L345 Light Gray spray paint.

I bought the ash wood slats from a source in Georgia as unfinished & undrilled pieces.  I laid each slat into its place and marked the original hole locations on the wood, then drilled holes for the screws.  I applied a penetrating wood oil to the wood slats then applied a urethane sealer.  I used #12 stainless 1.5" screws to hold the slats securely in-place.
