Engine Removal & Disassembly

Removing the old 40hp engine is a two-man job.  So I was fortunate to have Gary Hauley (B&R Buggies) to volunteer to help me.  He's pulled thousands of VW motors in his lifetime.  Early Sunday morning he showed-up & we got to work.

Unfortunately a 1970's Beetle bolt (with irregular head design) had been fitted to the upper-right bolt hole, making it difficult to remove.  Once that was out the other three 17mm nuts came out easily.  Jack under the motor & a good tug brought the engine off the transmission & out!

Tessa & I disassembled it.  Exhaust, carb, intake, fan shroud, tin, distributor, & fuel pump.  Found a mud wasp nest inside the fan shroud!  Turns out the motor was a Feb 1961 Beetle motor.
