Brake System Rebuild
The brakes needed to be redone after so many years off the road. The master cylinder was rusted & had no pressure. So the brake system components were ordered from Wolfsburg West.

Pedro came over for the master cylinder replacement which went in as expected. When we filled the fluid & tested the system the two rear wheel cylinders blew-out, dripping brake fluid. So new rear wheel cylinders & shoes were installed. Tessa (11) helped with bleeding the brakes.

Our first test drive to test the brakes was in the rain with no windshields. Rear wheel cylinders & shoes were replaced, ebrake adjusted, & brake switch replaced with an NOS T3 one.

The front brake cylinders & shoes were replaced and the backing plates were stripped & painted black. During the reassembly one of the metal lines broke & I stripped the head on the central hard line.

Wolfsburg West had new metal lines but they were straight & needed to be bent to the shape of the original lines. The central line between cylinders & the left-front line to the master cylinder took about 15 minutes each to bend. It was an easier process than I'd feared.
