Jack Fisher has been restoring Type 3s since 1990.  He prefers the early models and has owned about a dozen over the years.  His current collection includes a 1964 Panel Variant, 1964 Type 34 Coupe, and this 1963 Variant.

After the Variant was delivered he stripped-off the seat upholstery to discover the original upholstery underneath!  Next he restored the brake system, rebuilding the original wheel cylinders & installing an NOS master cylinder.  Then he had the rims restored in original two-tone. He decided to spend 120 hours painstakingly stripping-off the white exterior paint, revealing the original Gulf Blue underneath!  Some parts needed to be repainted due to bondo & bodywork so Jack bought Gulf Blue and sprayed the sections himself (hood, rear valence, side vents).

In July he found a set of 1963 license plates that are perfect!  He also attended the Herman Cook VW 50th Anniversary event in Encinitas CA with a prime parking spot right in front!

In late-February 2018 Jack made the trade with Lee for his 1968 T34 and the Variant relocated to Poway CA.
